SCAM ALERT!

warning-sign-clipart

Imagine receiving an official looking, watermarked check drafted against the Wells Fargo bank in the amount of $3,980.00 payable to me.  I was to carry out specific instructions for disbursements of said check under the probationary terms of my alleged employment as a mystery shopper. The instructions for disbursement of funds are as follows:

1.  Two hours probation training pay: $130.00

2.  Required funds to be sent Western Union: $3350.00

3.  Service Charge of Western Union: $100.00

4.  Funds for shopping;  $400.00

My first assignment was to visit one the stores listed in my area to evaluate various conditions; and, also a Western Union or Money Gram service.  The alleged employer  figured that the assignment would only take me two hours to complete, rate of pay @$65/hr; the Western Union transaction was a big test; and, spend $100 at one of the listed stores.  Wow, I thought not bad for two hours of work netting $130.00 pay plus $100.00 in merchandise I get to keep.

Well, smelling like this is too easy to be true, so I did the research and found out that it's a SCAM according to the Council of American Survey Research Organizations, which has instructed to bring the mailer to the local post office for fraud filing.  Watch out for this company's mailer:

Hi~
Today I received the same flyer with a check for the amount of $3980.00 with the same instructions.  I went online and came across this page, which I thank you very much for!  I then went to the web site of the Council Of American Survey Research Org. and also verified that they are not a member.  After reading your post, I decided that I would go ahead and call the number that they provide.  They seem to think that it's fun to try and scam people of their hard earned money, I thought I would have some fun with them...
I asked the man who answered the phone where they were located.  Is it Toronto or NY?  I was told NY.  That the address in Toronto was to their certified distribution center.  So I then asked which address he would like me to use when I file my complaint against this company for sending me a bogus check to be used in an international scam.  I was told that I might as well use both and to quit harrassing the company or they would file charges.  I then explained to the man that I was not harrassing them, I simply called the number on the flyer (as instructed to do per their flyer).  That's about the time I was hung up on.  Well I guess that I now have some extra scratch paper...

You should also - if you're a writer trying to get published - beware of people who contact you & say they wish to publish your writing. This happened to me very recently, & since I'm trying my damnedest to get published I thought they were legit - then I Googled them, & found out they were a total scam.

Thanks for your visits & your kind comments. Happy St Paddy's Day!  xx
